W.W. Norton Launches Digital Textbook Featuring Noteflight Music Technology

Noteflight partners with W.W. Norton to take leading college music theory worksheets online

Boston, MA (PRWEB) December 18, 2012

Noteflight LLC announced today the availability of the online interactive version of the student workbook for W.W. Norton’s popular college text, The Musician’s Guide to Theory and Analysis. Formerly available only in print, the workbook is now purchasable as over 600 interactive exercises hosted on Noteflight’s innovative digital music notation platform. College music theory students and instructors can purchase a bundle that combines the digital edition of The Musician’s Guide Workbook with a 2-year Noteflight subscription.

Through the W.W. Norton website, students can gain access to the workbook activities that are made available in a private Noteflight account. These activities can then be completed by students and ultimately shared with the instructor for online viewing and grading. Students may also use Noteflight for their own music composition activities; the bundle will also give students access to the full premium Noteflight product, Crescendo.

“As the leader in online music notation technology, Noteflight is the ideal partner to allow W.W. Norton to offer this type of interactive learning experience. ” remarked Maribeth Payne, Vice President and Music Editor for W.W. Norton. “By offering the workbook in Noteflight, we’re giving students valuable content packaged in an elegant, easy-to-use notation program that is accessible on any computer, any time. We see The Musician’s Guide as only the beginning of what might be possible with Noteflight in the future.”

Noteflight’s technology allows publishers of online materials to easily embed interactive musical scores in a web environment without any additional development or coding, enabling publishers to bring their content to market quickly. Musical scores can be synchronized with audio and video files, providing a highly interactive experience for students. Because Noteflight is accessible from any computer, students can compose from anywhere, eliminating the need for schools to equip and maintain expensive lab environments.

“We are proud to partner with a leader in educational publishing.” said Joe Berkovitz, Founder and CEO of Noteflight. “As Noteflight continues to push its technology to reach all platforms and devices, we are excited to see how we can support W.W Norton in transforming its valuable body of musical content to support the digital lifestyles of students today.”

Noteflight offers cloud-based music notation software to individuals, K-12 music teachers and university level music educators. It also licenses its viewer technology to leading global music companies, including sheet music publishers and digital content distributors.
